What is a Human Design chart or Bodygraph?
A Human Design chart, also called a Bodygraph, is a visual map containing nine centers, 64 gates, 36 channels, and planetary activations. It is used as a symbolic framework for exploring patterns in energy, decisions, relationships, and work.
How is a Human Design chart calculated?
A calculator converts the local birth time to a universal time reference, calculates planetary positions, maps them to gates and lines, and then combines the activations into channels, centers, Type, Authority, Profile, and Definition. It also calculates a prenatal Design moment based on the Sun's position approximately 88 solar degrees before birth.
What birth information do I need?
You need the birth date, local birth time, and birthplace. The birthplace is mainly used to identify the correct time zone and daylight-saving rules. Human Design does not use astrological houses for the Bodygraph calculation.
Why does exact birth time matter?
Planetary positions change continuously. A small time difference can change a line or gate near a boundary and may affect a channel, center, or higher-level chart property. Use the most accurate recorded time available.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
You can still explore a chart as a tentative result, but it should not be treated as certain. Compare nearby times and check official records where possible. Any birth-time adjustment is interpretive and cannot guarantee one correct chart.
What are the Personality and Design sides of the chart?
The Personality side uses the birth moment and is commonly shown in black. The Design side uses a prenatal moment found approximately 88 solar degrees before birth and is commonly shown in red. These labels are part of the Human Design framework, not clinical measurements.

What do the main terms mean?
What are the five Human Design Types?
The five commonly named Types are Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, and Reflector. Human Design pairs Type with Strategy as a high-level way to describe how someone is encouraged to engage with life.
What are Strategy and Inner Authority?
Strategy describes the way a Type is traditionally encouraged to respond to opportunities. Inner Authority is the decision-making approach assigned by the chart, such as Emotional, Sacral, Splenic, Self-Projected, Ego, or Lunar. These are symbolic prompts, not instructions or guarantees.
What does a Human Design Profile mean?
A Profile is a pair of numbers from 1 to 6, such as 2/4 or 5/1. The numbers come from the Sun lines on the Personality and Design sides and are interpreted as themes for learning, relationships, and how a person is seen by others.
What are centers, gates, and channels?
Centers are the nine geometric areas in a Bodygraph. Gates are 64 numbered positions connected to the I Ching, and channels are the 36 pathways between centers. In the chart logic, a channel is completed when both of its gates are activated.
What is a Human Design transit overlay?
A transit overlay places current planetary positions beside the natal chart to show which gates may be active now or which open gates may be temporarily completed. It is a timing and reflection feature, not a scientific forecast.
Does a Human Design chart change over time?
A natal chart is calculated from one birth moment and does not change. A transit overlay changes as the planets move and may be used to explore temporary activations. A transit is not a guaranteed prediction of an event.

Why do different Human Design calculators show different results?
Differences usually come from the entered time zone, daylight-saving history, birthplace matching, ephemeris data, lunar-node choice, gate boundaries, Design-date method, or rounding. Use the same local birth details and compare the calculation method when checking results.
Are Human Design charts scientifically validated?
No. The astronomical positions and chart arithmetic can be calculated and reproduced, but Human Design interpretations have not been scientifically validated as a personality, health, or predictive assessment.
How should I use a Human Design reading?
Use it as a reflective conversation or personal experiment. Keep what helps, question what does not, and use qualified professionals for medical, mental-health, legal, financial, or other important decisions.
Can I calculate a chart for a child or another person?
You can calculate a chart when you have reliable birth details, but another person's chart does not give access to private thoughts or choices. Treat celebrity and public-figure charts as entertainment, and respect the person's privacy.
Is my birth information stored when I create a free chart?
The free chart form asks for an email address and birth details when you choose to submit them. Those details are used to save the request and support the newsletter. Review the Privacy page for the current storage and contact details.

How should I read my Human Design chart in order?

How do I know whether I am following my Strategy and Authority?
There is no objective test for this. Human Design describes it as an experiment: notice how decisions feel over time, compare outcomes, and keep your own judgment. Other people's interpretations should not replace your experience or professional advice.
What does an undefined or open center mean?
An undefined or open center is shown without consistent natal definition in the Bodygraph. Within Human Design it is interpreted as an area where someone may notice or amplify outside influences. It is not a weakness, diagnosis, or fixed limitation.
Does a defined center make someone stronger or better?
No. Defined and undefined centers describe different symbolic patterns, not a ranking of people. A defined center is interpreted as more consistent for that chart, while an open center is interpreted as more receptive or variable.
What is Definition in Human Design?
Definition describes how the defined centers in a Bodygraph connect into groups. A chart may have a single, split, triple split, or quadruple split definition. These labels describe chart structure and are not measures of ability or relationship quality.
What is an Incarnation Cross?
An Incarnation Cross is a Human Design life-theme label calculated from the Personality and Design Sun and Earth gates. It can be used as a broad reflection theme, but it does not determine a person's purpose, career, behavior, or destiny.
Should I focus on my Incarnation Cross or my Type first?
For most beginners, Type, Strategy, and Authority are a simpler place to start. Profile and centers add useful context next. The Incarnation Cross is an optional deeper theme rather than a replacement for the basic chart mechanics.
What are Variables or the four arrows?
Variables are four arrow indicators commonly shown around a Human Design chart. They are interpreted through advanced ideas about perspective, environment, digestion, and awareness. Because interpretations vary between schools, treat them as optional context rather than a primary result.
What do the six lines of a gate mean?
Each of the 64 gates is divided into six lines. The line adds a narrower interpretive theme to the gate, and the line number is calculated from the planetary position within that gate. It can change near a boundary even when the gate itself stays the same.
What is the difference between a gate, channel, and center?
A gate is one of 64 positions, a channel is one of 36 connections between two centers, and a center is one of the nine geometric areas in the Bodygraph. A complete channel requires both connected gates to be activated and defines the centers at its ends.
Why do I not resonate with my Human Design chart?
A mismatch can come from an incorrect time zone, daylight-saving rule, birth time, or chart method. It can also reflect broad language or an interpretation that does not fit your experience. Check the birth details first, then treat the chart as a prompt rather than an identity test.
Can two people have the same Human Design Type and Profile?
Yes. Type and Profile are only part of a chart. Two people can share both and still have different Authorities, centers, gates, channels, Definition, Variables, life experiences, and cultural contexts.
Why does my chart look different from another website?
Some sites use different visual layouts, colors, labels, or levels of detail even when the underlying activations agree. Compare the birth time, time zone, Design-date method, gate assignments, and channels before treating a visual difference as a calculation error.
Can my Human Design Type change?
A natal Type is calculated from the birth chart and does not change. Your understanding may change, and transits can temporarily activate open gates or channels, but those effects do not rewrite the natal chart.
Is Human Design a religion or a belief system?
Human Design is generally presented as an esoteric self-reflection system that draws from several traditions. People engage with it in different ways, from spiritual practice to symbolic experimentation. You do not need to treat its interpretations as proven facts to explore the chart.
How is Human Design different from astrology or personality tests?
Human Design uses planetary positions like astrology but maps them into its own gates, channels, centers, and chart properties. Unlike a validated psychological test, it is a symbolic typology and has not been scientifically validated as a measure of personality or ability.
What are electromagnetic connections in relationship charts?
In Human Design relationship language, an electromagnetic connection occurs when one person's activated gate complements another person's gate to complete a channel. It is a symbolic description of interaction, not proof of compatibility, attraction, or relationship outcome.
How should parents use Human Design with children?
Use a child's chart only as a gentle reflection prompt, never as a label or limit. Avoid pressuring a child to behave according to a Type, and do not use Human Design instead of medical, educational, developmental, or mental-health support.
